Guitar Hero Metallica Cyanide – Xbox 360
July 8th, 2009 by Sean
My buddy Brandon came over last Friday (July 3) and we played some Guitar Hero Metallica on my Xbox 360 and it was decided to record a video of the gameplay.
I apologize in advance for the auto focusing going on in the video. I’ll turn that off for the next gaming video.
Moving along, here is the Metallica Guitar Hero song Cyanide on Hard:
Almost had 100% but ended up with 99%. Missed a note right around 3:22 in the video. Eh, will get it next time.
Some other Guitar Hero stats to mention were a 461 note streak, 5 star rating and a final score of 389,747. Not too bad.
I plan on recording some other gaming videos, so if you have requests, leave them in the comments. Enjoy the video.

Conan Addresses Super Mario Backdrop
June 5th, 2009 by Sean
You might have heard earlier this week how a website was claiming that Conan O’Brien’s new set looked suspiciously like a Super Mario Bros. level.
Well, tonight on his show Conan addressed the accusations, saying that:
“it’s absurd — there’s no way that you could ever see Super Mario Bros. in this set.”
And then he delivered the punchline, which you can see in this clip:
Anyway, it seems like Conan staged the entire thing, but either way, it’s pretty funny — and a really cool homage to the Nintendo game.

Perfect Dark Coming To XBLA This Winter
June 2nd, 2009 by Sean
Larry Hryb Director of Programming for the Microsoft gaming network (Xbox Live Arcade) just posted a little note on his Twitter account:
In the booth. Just saw Perfect Dark on XBLA running 1080p. It is coming to XBLA this winter. Free theme coming tomorrow!
So yeah, the original Perfect Dark originally released on the N64 will be out on Xbox Live Arcade later this year.

According to Hryb, it’s running in 1080p, and will be out this “Winter”.
The news isn’t surprising, since it’s been heavily rumored for a while now, but still. It’s pleasant.

PS2: Dirge of Cerberus – Final Fantasy VII
May 31st, 2009 by Luke C.
Sometimes a successful series has a spin-off that, while strange, turns out to be fun and successful in its own right, like Phantasy Star Online or Secret of Mana. On the other hand, sometimes you end up with Dirge of Cerberus.
First, since Cerberus is a spin-off of possibly the most controversial game in the Final Fantasy series and the pleasure you can get from it probably depends at least partly on what you think of the parent game, I should come clean: I don’t like FF7. I think that at its core it’s a mediocre RPG with a few interesting ideas, but also that it sparked off negative trends in the genre. I also watched but didn’t really like or dislike the movie sequel, Advent Children. (I did like Tifa’s redesign, though.)
Now we’re up to Dirge of Cerberus. It’s an action game (specifically a third-person shooter) starring Vincent Valentine, who as I understand it is the good optional character in FF7. While aiding the cleanup efforts after the disasters that strike during FF7 and AC, Vincent is apparently targeted by Deep Ground, special forces from Shinra that have not been able to surface (literally) since the Meteor event of FF7. Battlefield 1943 Drops In June
April 23rd, 2009 by Sean
DICE advances World War II by a year in June, announcing the release date and pricing details for their downloadable online multiplayer shooter Battlefield 1943.

A small slice of World War II is coming to the PlayStation network and Xbox Live Arcade on June 15th in DICE’s Frostbyte-driven update to Battlefield 1942.
It’s the US Marines against the Imperial Japanese Navy as gamers participate in 24-player battles across Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.
Coming in at a mere $15.00 USD, or 1200 Microsoft points, this sounds like a bargain to me.
Be on the lookout for the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network versions in June, with the PC version coming in September for some odd reason.

Xbox: Star Wars Republic Commando
April 12th, 2009 by Luke C.
While movie-licensed video games tend to have a reputation for being bad games, Star Wars games have a better-than-average reputation, and Republic Commando is one of the reasons why.

If you want to play a game that takes you through the movies, allowing you to reenact the amazing battles and wield the awesome powers of the Jedi, this isn’t your kind of game. Republic Commando follows the exploits of Delta Squad, four clone commandos during the Clone Wars. Throughout the campaign it’s just you, your modular blaster rifle, and your squadmates against armies.
There’s not a huge amount of variety to your weapons in this game. You have a blaster rifle that has an autofire mode, a sniper mode, and an anti-armor mode, and then one fourth slot. By default this slot holds your pistol, which is weak and slow to recharge but has unlimited ammo. Read the rest of this entry…

Xbox 360 – XBLA: Smash TV
April 4th, 2009 by Luke C.
When people talk about how older games can be both a lot of fun and hair-pullingly difficult at the same time, this is the game they’re talking about.

In Smash TV, you and your partner play as contestants in a high-tech televised gladiatorial game show. If you’re really never seen or played the game before (and how did you manage that?) imagine The Running Man set in an enclosed arena. Read the rest of this entry…
