GameStop Mission – Guitar Hero: Metallica

March 30th, 2009 by Sean

So early Sunday morning (March 29) I picked up my pre-ordered copy of Guitar Hero: Metallica from my local GameStop.

Guitar Hero: Metallica

My friend Mik came over early, we headed out to the Game Stop to get in line since I’d be getting a free kick pedal for some double bass action and rumor had it that stores would have a very limited supply.

We arrive at GameStop and no one is waiting outside the store. We are first. After a few minutes, others show up, some even wearing Metallica shirts. It was like waiting for a Metallica concert.

After about 30-40 minutes, the management opens the doors and we rush into the store. I’m first to the cash register. They have two lines. I start to pay the balance for the game and hear the other cashier say to the guy next to me:

“Well you are lucky and getting only one of seven pedals we were shipped for the Guitar Hero Metallica pre-release…”

Hearing that I might not get a free kick pedal for pre-ordering, my heart skipped a beat and I quickly reply with:

“So that means I get one of six pedals right?”

The funny thing is at the exact moment, my cashier reaches into the box and pulls one out for me. Sweet! Thanks for looking out Ashley I’m thinking.

Apparently there was a total of 44 pre-orders done at my local GameStop and they only received 7 kick pedals. That’s just crazy. There are going to be some pissed off Guitar Hero gamers that’s for sure.

Now having my new Guitar Hero Metallica in hand (and free kick pedal) for my Xbox 360, we head back to my house for some guitar solos and heavy hitting power chords capable of turning even the sturdiest fingers into tiny puddles of red goo. Heavy Metal at it’s finest!

Needless to say Mik and I played Guitar Hero Metallica for hours yesterday. It’s probably one of the best releases of Guitar Hero to date. Thanks Activision.

I’ll have a full review of the game in the coming days once I finish Riding the lightning and beating the game. So far it’s pretty awesome and even on easy, some of the older Metallica songs are pretty finger intensive, just ask Mik :)

Wolfenstein 3D: Possible PSN/XBLA Release

March 26th, 2009 by Sean

As we know, id Software put out a press release informing us that Wolfenstein 3D Classic is now available to download on your Apple iPhone and iPod Touch via the App store.

Wolfenstein 3D Classic

This new version of the game supports touch-based controls, as well as a tilt-based scheme, and a new top-down map that shows where you’ve been in each level.

It’s not all new, however, as the game features all 6 original episodes and the weapons we’ve all come to know and love, including Hitler. Wolfenstein 3D Classic will set you back $4.99 USD in the App store.

Classic Wolfenstein 3D isn’t done there, it would seem, as a rating for the game just popped up on the ESRB website. The game has been rated for the Xbox 360 and PS3, suggesting a future PSN and XBLA release.

Bug-Free ‘The Pitt’ Add-on Now Available

March 25th, 2009 by Sean

Bethesda has fixed the bugs in Fallout 3′s “The Pitt” downloadable content pack, and the add-on is once again on sale via the Xbox Live Marketplace for $10 USD.

The Pitt

The DLC’s planned release yesterday hit a snag when those who purchased the add-on found it to be buggy and non-functional.

Bethesda released a statement saying a “corrupted” version of the add-on had been accidentally placed on the Xbox Live Marketplace and that the developer would amend the problem as soon as possible.

If you did purchase the DLC yesterday, Bethesda asks that you delete the content you downloaded so as not to interfere with the new version.

Encase you were wondering, you won’t need to re-pay for the DLC, as your Xbox 360 can re-download any file as many times as you desire.

NES: Mega Man 2

March 20th, 2009 by Sean

MegaMan II is the sequel to the mildly popular Mega Man 1. This game featured more bosses, larger stages, more abilities for the Blue Bomber, and the same evil mastermind, Dr. Wily.

Apparently Dr. Light/Right still hasn’t figured out how to get rid of his former assistant, so he sends Mega Man off to take him down. So, does Mega Man succeed this time, or does he end up on a permanent vacation?

Mega Man II Title Screen

Mega Man II is a lot better than in the first in the fact that it’s longer, has more bosses, more weapons, and the GutsDozer. We must not forget the Gigantic Shrimp-spewing Lantern Fish. Creepy cool if you ask me.

I don’t find anything wrong with this sequel to the original Mega Man. Whatever problems there were in the first one, they corrected in this one for sure. Read the rest of this entry…

Sega Genesis: Comix Zone

March 19th, 2009 by Sean

Comix Zone is an extremely original and visually impressive game which immerses you in a comic book world. It’s probably one of the coolest games I’ve ever seen on the Sega Genesis.

Genesis: Comix Zone

The idea behind it is that the comic’s author has magically switched places with the book’s villain. Your hero moves from frame to frame and page to page as a large hand draws new villains for you to fight.

The remarkable graphics are nearly comic book quality, with bubbles of dialog that appear every so often. Read the rest of this entry…

Atari 2600: Frogger

March 17th, 2009 by Sean

This is easily one of the greatest and most popular classic Atari 2600 game cartridges of all time.

Atari 2600 Frogger

Frogger features bright, colorful graphics that appeal to both men and women of all ages.

Your little frog must first cross a busy street filled with all sorts of speeding cars and trucks. He must then navigate a river full of logs, snakes, alligators, attractive lady frogs, and juicy flies.

Not only does this version have all the elements of the original arcade hit, there are also a few extras thrown in like a “speedy Frogger” mode and the ability to drift off one side of the screen and reappear on the other.

Harmonized music only plays before and after each game, but it sure sounds great, especially for an old classic game from the early 1980′s.

The bottom line, 26+ years later, I personally think Frogger for the Atari 2600 is a “must have” retro game for any classic game collector.

For added retro gaming goodness, you can play Frogger in our free online classic game room anytime you want.

Atari 2600: River Raid

March 15th, 2009 by Sean

River Raid designed by Carol Shaw for Activision has got to rank as one of the top five Atari 2600 games of all time.

Atari 2600 - River Raid

This excellent vertical shooter requires precision flying and accurate shooting as you guide a jet through a river valley while blasting ships, helicopters, planes, and bridges.

Flying over fuel barges restores your ever-dwindling fuel supply, and savvy gamers will destroy these just after refueling (for extra points). When your fuel gets low, it’s a good idea to hold you fire so you don’t accidentally blast an upcoming barge. Read the rest of this entry…
