NES – Adventures Of Lolo
January 6th, 2009 by Sean
This charming little NES game titled Adventures Of Lolo challenges you to solve increasingly complex puzzles in a series of castle rooms.

In this classic game developed by HAL Laboratory, you control Lolo, a cute little blue ball with two big eyes.
Each screen-sized stage requires quick reflexes and thoughtful strategy as you slide blocks, avoid monsters, and use power-ups to open the single chest in each room.
You can the view the layout of each room before each stage, and you’ll want to use this opportunity to formulate your strategy. Read the rest of this entry…
Sega Dreamcast: Crazy Taxi 2
January 4th, 2009 by Sean
Crazy Taxi 2 for the Sega Dreamcast is a lot like the original game, only with new scenery and a couple other minor upgrades.

That’s fine for people who didn’t play the first game, but for Crazy Taxi veterans this is awfully familiar.
This time the action takes place in New York City, but except for less hills and the addition of a large bridge, the scenery really doesn’t look a whole lot different from the first game. Read the rest of this entry…
Atari 2600: Combat
January 3rd, 2009 by Sean
This game is an enigma. In the 1980′s, all of my friends detested Combat, often poking fun at its plain graphics and simplistic gameplay.

However, 30+ years later, everybody I know that owns an Atari 2600 swears up and down that it’s one of the greatest games ever made.
Each of the game’s 27 variations challenges you to out shoot your opponent over a 2 minute, 16 second time period.
The tank variations have loads of options including different maze layouts, guided missiles, bouncing missiles, and even invisible tanks. Read the rest of this entry…

Sega Game Gear: Streets of Rage 2
December 29th, 2008 by Sean
The Genesis Streets of Rage 2 set a new standard for side-scrolling fighters, and this Sega Game Gear version is a surprisingly close adaptation.

You can choose between Axel, Blaze, and Skate, and the characters look almost identical in to those in the original game. Max the wrestler isn’t included, but you won’t miss his big slow ass anyway. Read the rest of this entry…
Nintendo 64: Blast Corps
December 26th, 2008 by Sean
When it comes to guys, there’s only one thing we like better than building stuff, and that’s blowing stuff up!

Thank goodness Blast Corps for the N64 gives us guys an outlet for our primal urge to unleash destruction and mayhem.
Each stage begins with a large truck carrying explosive materials slowly crawling up the screen. If it touches anything, it’s game over, so you must obliterate all obstacles standing in its way. Read the rest of this entry…
GameCube: Super Monkey Ball
December 24th, 2008 by Sean
With Nintendo’s Super Monkey Ball, I think I’ve discovered the definitive party game for the Gamecube.

Super Monkey Ball’s electrifying “party mode” features three incredible multi-player games.
Monkey Racing plays like a wild “kart” game, with momentum playing a huge role.
Monkey Fight lets you punch other players with oversized boxing gloves to knock them off an elevated platform.
Monkey Target is the best of all, with airborne monkeys gliding onto distant targets scattered in an ocean of islands.
All three games are easy to play, addictive, and fun, but wait – there’s more! Read the rest of this entry…
Genesis: Shinobi Return of the Ninja Master
December 20th, 2008 by Sean
Shinobi III for the Sega Genesis is one of the best ninja games I’ve ever played. The graphics, sound, and control are all spectacular.

The first stage is set in the wilderness, with ninjas hiding in the trees. It’s pretty cool, except for the guy walking around with the bucket on his head.
In the second stage, you fight armed guards in a high-tech, biological test facility. Read the rest of this entry…
NES – Double Dragon
December 17th, 2008 by Sean
A ground-breaking arcade game, Double Dragon by Tradewest popularized the side-scrolling, beat-em-up genre.

On the NES however, its title is deceiving because only one person can play at a time, and that’s disappointing.
Otherwise Double Dragon is pretty solid fighter with graphics and music that are pretty faithful to the arcade.
In addition to fighting in the streets, you can also scale ladders and fight on buildings. Read the rest of this entry…
