Zelda Ocarina Of Time Cartridge Trivia

December 30th, 2008 by Sean

As most of my friends know, I’m an avid collector of classic games and retro gaming systems, which is why Modern Classic Gaming came to be.

So with being a collector, over the years I’ve learned some pretty cool gaming trivia and this evening I wanted to share a little bit of that knowledge.

Tonight, I’ll be sharing some cool trivia about The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time game cartridge for the Nintendo 64.

N64 Zelda Manual and Cartridge

A lot of gaming companies, like Nintendo for example, release various versions of game software. Some with bug fixes or removing elements of the game.

Below is what I’ve come to learn about the N64 version of “The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time” cartridge. Read the rest of this entry…

GameCube: Super Monkey Ball

December 24th, 2008 by Sean

With Nintendo’s Super Monkey Ball, I think I’ve discovered the definitive party game for the Gamecube.

Super Monkey Ball

Super Monkey Ball’s electrifying “party mode” features three incredible multi-player games.

Monkey Racing plays like a wild “kart” game, with momentum playing a huge role.

Monkey Fight lets you punch other players with oversized boxing gloves to knock them off an elevated platform.

Monkey Target is the best of all, with airborne monkeys gliding onto distant targets scattered in an ocean of islands.

All three games are easy to play, addictive, and fun, but wait – there’s more! Read the rest of this entry…

GameCube: Metroid Prime

November 15th, 2008 by Sean

The original Metroid was an NES classic, and Super Metroid (1994) is considered by some to be the best game for the Super Nintendo. Both featured top-notch platform shooting in creepy, desolate space environments. Transitioning such a popular series to the third dimension turned out to be a monumental challenge.

GameCube Metroid Prime

Originally intended to be a first-person shooter for the N64, the project was plagued with controversy, endless delays, and development team changes.

All things considered, it’s surprising that Metroid Prime turned out this good! Not only does Prime capture the distinctive flavor of the series, but you’ll need to search high and low for a more polished video game. Read the rest of this entry…

GameCube: Luigi’s Mansion

November 9th, 2008 by Sean

Luigi’s Mansion has fallen under intense and perhaps unfair scrutiny with people focusing more on its technical prowess than actual gameplay.

After receiving my copy a few days ago, I personally like how Luigi’s Mansion takes an occult theme and turns it into a light-hearted family affair.

Luigi's Mansion

Armed with a flashlight and vacuum cleaner, Luigi’s objective is to find his brother Mario in an expansive haunted house. By shining the flashlight on ghosts at critical moments, Luigi can stun them, making them vulnerable to being vacuumed up.

Reminiscent of Ghostbusters, vacuuming is done by holding the joystick in the opposite direction as the ghost struggles to escape. Sucking up ghosts is fun, and controls have a certain fishing game quality. Read the rest of this entry…

Platinum Wireless Wavebird Controller

November 4th, 2008 by Sean

Earlier this evening I was searching eBay looking for another Wavebird controller so I would have four and came across this eBay auction:

Brand new wireless wavebird platinum sealed in retail packaging. Very hard to find in this condition. Great for Smash Bros. Ships free via USPS Priority with delivery confirmation. 2 available.

This Nintendo GameCube Wavebird sure is a beauty, all sealed and minty fresh as seen in the auction picture below but…

Platinum Wireless Wavebird Controller

The only issue I have with this auction is the controller is $114.99 USD. Yikes. I don’t need a brand new sealed Wavebird that bad.

Apparently this seller has 2 Wavebirds available at this price if anyone is interested in paying way too much :)

I did a little more checking and found out that the eBay 90-day eBay average price is $24.00 USD, so I’ll just keep looking for a used Wavebird.

GameCube: Super Mario Sunshine

November 2nd, 2008 by Sean

It’s always a joy to play a brand-spanking new Mario game, and Super Mario Sunshine radiates with all the magic and charm we’ve come to expect from the pudgy plumber.

Super Mario Sunshine

The storyline revolves around a Mario look-alike who has vandalized the beautiful Isle of Delfino. Unjustly charged with the crime, Mario is sentenced to clean up the island with the help of a high-powered, water-spraying backpack.

This innovative device really adds a whole new dimension to the standard platform fare. It’s a blast to hose off nasty sludge, and you can even turn the nozzle on your foes! Read the rest of this entry…

GameCube: Mario Kart Double Dash

October 29th, 2008 by Sean

Kart games are always fun, but Mario Kart Double Dash for the Nintendo GameCube perfects the formula, and is truly a joy to play.

Mario Kart Double Dash

Each kart can hold two characters, one to drive and one to hang off the back and employ weapons. While the second character doesn’t make a huge difference here, it does add a few subtle nuances to the strategy.

Pairing up characters introduces weight factors, gives the ability to “juggle” power-ups, and lets you team up with a friend. Characters can switch places on the fly, and each can hold a different power-up. Read the rest of this entry…

GameCube: Thirteen XIII

October 29th, 2008 by Sean

XIII or “Thirteen” for the Nintendo GameCube is a cel-shaded first-person shooter based on a long-running French comic book of the same name.

GameCube: Thirteen XIII

The game definitely plays up its comic book roots, complete with readable sound effects and comic-book-like panels that pop up while you’re playing.

As a secret agent with complete amnesia, players unravel clues behind their true identity, while uncovering sinister plots against themselves, the U.S. government, and a mysterious presidential assassination.

XIII gas pretty good multiplayer action with up to four-player split-screen in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Hunt modes. Read the rest of this entry…
