Play 50+ Classic Atari 2600 Games Online
March 3rd, 2009 by Sean
2600 Online is a website that features over 50+ classic Atari 2600 games that you can play online for free:
The site is getting a ton of traffic, so you might have to try a couple of times before you can actually get on and play. I’m sure traffic will die down soon.
Also, don’t forget about our free online retro arcade or if you want to try over 1,300 other online games, check out the Flash gaming site Almighty Arcade.
Zork + Pac-Man = Pac-txt
March 1st, 2009 by Sean
Smart Amazon.com ads placement, in the speech clouds of ghosts:

Being a huge Pac-Man fan, I’m all over the text-based game Pac-TXT which starts with the text:
You awaken in a large complex, slightly disoriented. Glowing dots hover mouth level near you in every direction. Off in the distance you hear the faint howling of what you can only imagine must be some sort of ghost or several ghosts.
Power pill? I type ‘eat’ and Pac-txt replies: “You have eaten the glowing dot!” You can type ‘help’ to get additional commands.
Now it’s just you and the text. Let me know how high you score. Watch out for the ghosts!

NES: Slalom
February 27th, 2009 by Sean
I’m a big fan of snow games, and Slalom designed by Rare has a cheerful winter vibe that’s appealing.

You select between three mountains of increasing difficulty, each offering a series of eight trails to conquer.
You’re racing the clock, and to reach the finish line in time you’ll need to ski through gates and avoid a myriad of obstacles like snowmen, pine trees, and kids on sleds.
It feels like an obstacle course, but the handy jump button lets you soar right over many of the hazards.
Racing against the clock is fun, and a handy icon moves across the top of the screen so you can easily tell how close you are to the finish. Read the rest of this entry…
Cool Hacked Super Mario Levels
February 21st, 2009 by Sean
Doing some random Nintendo Super Mario Level video searching on YouTube earlier today, I came across this video:
I’ve done my share of hacking game ROMs but nothing like this. It probably took these gaming hackers hundreds of hours to create this masterpiece.
Now if I could only find a download for it
Xbox 360: Ultimate Genesis Collection
February 13th, 2009 by Sean
As expected, this morning I received my copy of “Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection” for my Xbox 360. Here are a few pictures:

As mentioned in my post the other day, I’ll be pretty busy doing some Retro Gaming this weekend.
Even though it’s Valentine’s weekend, my wife loves the Sonic games, so this will be a win-win for both of us
Sega: Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection
February 11th, 2009 by Sean
As most of the Modern Classic Gaming readers know, about a week ago I acquired an Xbox 360 Elite Edition.
Well apparently on February 10, 2009 (in North America) the nice folks at Sega released “Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection” for the Xbox 360.
Have a look at this official Sega trailer for more details:
I’m all about playing classic and retro games, so this release of 40+ games is just freaking amazing! The classic 2D style never looked so good!
All the favorites are here including Sonic The Hedgehog, four titles from the Phantasy Star series, as well as three titles from the Streets of Rage series.
Also included in the collection as unlockables are arcade favorites such as Congo Bongo, Altered Beast and Zaxxon just to name a few.
Each of the game titles have been converted to Hi-Def (720p) and will be a blast to play on my Xbox 360 (it’s being released on PlayStation 3 too).
For those of you who are not in North America and want to get your hands on this Sega DVD full of win, here are the official release dates:
- US: Feb 10, 2009
- EU: Feb 20, 2009
- AU: Feb 26, 2009
As an added bonus, you can unlock additional arcade games and interviews with the original game developers as you earn Achievements on the Xbox 360 and Trophies on the PlayStation 3.
All I can say is for around $30.00 USD, this is probably one of the best retro gaming compilations currently available for the Xbox 360.
I’ll have my copy in hand on Friday February 13, 2009 (thanks Amazon). Needless to say, I’ll be busy doing some Retro Gaming this weekend

Sega Dreamcast: Marvel Vs. Capcom
February 9th, 2009 by Sean
This 2D fighter for the Sega Dreamcast pits an odd assortment of Capcom favorites and Marvel superheroes.

On the Marvel side you have Spiderman, Captain America, Venom, War Machine, Hulk, Wolverine, and Gambit.
On the Capcom side, the motley crew includes Ryu, Zangief, Chun Li (Street Fighter 2), Captain Commando, Strider, Morrigan (Darkstalkers), and Mega Man.
Each player chooses two fighters in this tag team game, not including the additional “guest stars” you can call upon, and this game has every guest star except Charro! Read the rest of this entry…
Atari 2600: Fantastic Voyage
February 5th, 2009 by Sean
I can only assume that Fantastic Voyage is based on that cheesy old movie where a ship is shrunk down and is injected into some poor chump.

As you travel through a patient’s bloodstream, you must blast bacteria, blood clots, and other nasty stuff. Be careful however not to shoot the good blood cells. The constant sound of a heart monitor keeps you informed of your progress.
Fantastic Voyage plays a lot like River Raid, but it doesn’t look nearly as good. The graphics are well-defined but drab.
Precision controls let you easily adjust the speed and position of your ship. Some objects “break down” when shot (in an Asteroids kind of way), which is pretty cool. Also, the passageway collapses unexpectedly at certain parts of the game.
The instruction manual is very helpful and necessary to determine what you’re allowed to shoot.
Overall Fantastic Voyage is a decent game and worth the $3.00 USD I paid for it at a local garage sale.
