March 26th, 2009 by Sean
The first trailer of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is now announced! It was presented by Iwata at GDC 2009:
Special thanks to my friend Luke who also writes on Modern Classic Gaming for the tip.
Apparently the game will be available later this year for the Nintendo DS, DS Lite and DSi. I so want this game.

Nintendo DS: Space Invaders Extreme
March 25th, 2009 by Luke C.
We all know Space Invaders, right? A bunch of monochromatic aliens form ranks and march slowly down the screen towards you while you fire a small peashooter upwards at them, hoping you can destroy the last one before it obliterates your shields and crushes you.

Space Invaders Extreme uses a greatly sped-up version of the same basic formula. The sound design, while still hearkening back to the original game’s bleeps and bloops, now incorporates all sound effects into a techno soundtrack. Each shot and explosion is now a beat in the music, helping the player get into a Zen state for blasting evil aliens. Playing with the volume on isn’t as vital in this game as it is in, say, Elite Beat Agents, but you’re definitely missing out if you mute your DS. Read the rest of this entry…

Wolfenstein 3D Released For Apple iPhone
March 24th, 2009 by Sean
You can now get Wolfenstein 3D on your Apple iPhone and not some cheap Wolfenstein knock-off, the real deal, programmed and ported over by id’s own John Carmack, and best of all, it’s free.
So to sum this up, John Carmack has released an open-source port of Wolfenstein 3D for the Apple iPhone. Awesome!
You can download the source files here or from ID Software’s Wolfenstein 3D Classic page.

iPhone and iPod Touch: Zombieville USA
March 20th, 2009 by Sean
When your town is overrun by the walking dead, there’s only one thing left to do and that’s go through their pockets and look for loose change!
As the lone survivor of a zombie apocalypse, it’s up to you to battle legions of the undead in a never ending fight for survival in Zombieville USA.
Zombievilla USA is now available for your iPhone and iPod Touch. Here is a screen shot showing some of the gameplay:

You can download this game from the Apple iTunes App store. It’s only $1.99 USD which I think is a really good price for a fun game like this.
If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch and you end up downloading this game, let me know what you think of it. Happy portable gaming.

Game Boy Advance: Drill Dozer
March 17th, 2009 by Luke C.
Drill Dozer for the Game Boy Advance is one of those quirky games that I’m always slightly surprised came out in the US.

The star of the game is a pink-haired thief. No sneak-thief she, this girl rides a robot equipped with large drills for arms.
The gameplay is very simple. Your actions are basically limited to walking, jumping, drilling, and occasionally curling up into a little robot ball and dashing a short distance.
While the game controls may be simplistic, the actual gameplay makes good use of the idea of the drill. As you might expect, much of the gameplay involves drilling your way through the levels. Read the rest of this entry…

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
March 16th, 2009 by Luke C.
I’ll be upfront about this: Link’s Awakening for the original Game Boy is probably my favorite game in the Zelda series.

It maintains the isometric top-down view of Zelda games of the time – though side scrolling underground areas recall the Adventure of Link – and many of the basic mechanics like wandering around an Overworld to find dungeons in which you’ll find puzzles, a new tool, and a boss monster guarding some kind of doohickey you need to collect to finish the game. Luke’s Top 5 Standby Game Boy Games
March 14th, 2009 by Luke C.
Game Boy games hold a special place in my heart thanks to many nights spent playing them when I didn’t feel like reading but parents or other annoying roommates had already taken over the TV. I’ve had a lot of Game Boy and GBA games over my life, but I always come back to this handful of them.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening:
What can I say? This game may not be perfect, and may not even be the definitive version of itself, but it is a well-made, fun, and humorous entry into the Zelda series.
Revenge of the ‘Gator:
It’s pinball in a convenient handheld size. Even just as pinball, there’s nothing very outstanding about it beyond the (admittedly amusing) alligator motif. Still, it often saved my sanity as a kid being dragged around town – sitting in the car or a waiting room for half an hour is so much easier with this game. Read the rest of this entry…

I have a bunch of games for various consoles from when I was a kid which I don’t play anymore and your site came to mind.
Would you guys be interested in taking them off my hands? Maybe I have something that you guys want and could review?
The short answer, “of course we would love to get more games in our hands”.
Modern Classic Gaming gladly accepts games for any console or portable system and of course any game-related promotional materials.
If you have anything classic game related that you want to pawn off on us, please send all inquiries via our contact page and we’ll be in touch.
