1984-85 Nintendo NES In-Store Game Kiosk
June 17th, 2009 by Sean R.
An eBay seller says this is a kiosk that was used in stores to sell the Nintendo Entertainment System games back in the day:
Apparently this Kiosk has two NES controllers, a Grey Zapper Light Gun and is loaded with the following 16 classic NES games:
Tennis, Baseball, Soccer, 10-Yard Fight, Golf, Wild Gunman, Hogan’s Alley, Duck Hunt, Wrecking Crew, Excitebike, Kung Fu, Super Mario Bros., Ice Climber, Pinball, Clu-Clu Land, Stack-Up
I already own the actual cartridges for the games on this NES Kiosk, but man, if I had an extra $499.00 USD laying around, I’d probably bid on this auction.
Check out the details on the eBay auction listing.
Conan Addresses Super Mario Backdrop
June 5th, 2009 by Sean R.
You might have heard earlier this week how a website was claiming that Conan O’Brien’s new set looked suspiciously like a Super Mario Bros. level.
Well, tonight on his show Conan addressed the accusations, saying that:
“it’s absurd — there’s no way that you could ever see Super Mario Bros. in this set.”
And then he delivered the punchline, which you can see in this clip:
Anyway, it seems like Conan staged the entire thing, but either way, it’s pretty funny — and a really cool homage to the Nintendo game.

Nintendo: New Super Mario Bros Wii
June 3rd, 2009 by Sean R.
Below is a video from E3 2009 showing the world premiere announcement and demonstration of the new Nintendo Wii game, “New Super Mario Bros Wii”:
The actual gameplay demonstration starts around 2:20 in the video.
What I’m really excited about in this game is the ability for up to 4 players to cooperatively play together in a classic Super Mario Bros setting.
We can expect the “New Super Mario Bros Wii” game to be launched in Christmas 2009. I’ll be pre-ordering for sure.

Polar White Nintendo DS Lite Unboxing
May 27th, 2009 by Sean R.
Below is a video of the new Polar White Nintendo DS Lite I received today. I didn’t do the typical unboxing video with me talking and having issues with the box, etc.
Instead I took pictures of the process, added in some cool visual effects and me playing acoustic guitar over the video. FYI the music was pre-recorded and not played while I was taking pictures
So the moral of the story? I’m starting to get into making my own videos to post on Modern Classic Gaming. Cool, eh?
Keep your eyes out for more videos coming soon. If you have video requests, please comment below and I’ll see what I can do… and now to go play with my brand spanking new Polar White Nintendo DS Lite…

Colors on the Nintendo DS and DS Lite
May 25th, 2009 by Sean R.
Christian Pearce, illustrator extraordinaire, sees no limits when it comes to his hot rod art, proving that even the touchscreen-enabled Nintendo DS and the homebrew app, Colors can be a deadly combo for imaginative creation:
Christian Pearce isn’t just some random illustrator with a knack for unusual media. The New Zealand-based man has amazing talent as proven by his employment at Peter Jackson’s Weta Workshop, creating the dinosaurs for the most recent King Kong movie.
Weta might sounds familiar to some of you as this is the same production studio that brought us the real-life Warthog, the gun-turret-wielding off-road beast from the popular XBOX franchise, Halo.
Colors! for Nintendo DS requires a homebrew enabled Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite. Download Colors.

Nintendo Mario Kart Wii Used In Driver’s Ed
May 19th, 2009 by Sean R.
Students at Vail Christian High School in Colorado are learning the importance of not driving while distracted. They’re doing this with the help of Mario Kart Wii.
The high school created the “distracted and drowsy driving project” with the help of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Department, the Colorado State Patrol, the Eagle Country Fire Fighters and the Vail Valley Medical Center.
The kids “drive” Mario Kart Wii while trying to contend with text messages, turtle shells and powerslides.

NES: The Little Mermaid
May 17th, 2009 by Luke C.
Somewhere along the line movie-licensed games got a reputation for being, at best, mediocre. The Little Mermaid for the Nintendo Entertainment System probably belongs in that category, but nostalgia tells me it’s one of the shining lights of the NES library.

(I’ll be up front: I know this isn’t exactly one of the big classics of gaming, even compared to other Disney licensed games like DuckTales. However, it is the first game I remember beating without using a Game Genie or any other kind of cheat, so it’s always had a special place in my heart. It’s kind of like Scrooge’s first dime, I suppose. But enough about my childhood and mixing up Disney trivia, on with the review.) Read the rest of this entry…

Nintendo Wii: Punch-Out!!
May 10th, 2009 by Sean R.
Now, with a little over a week between us and Little Mac’s ringside return in Punch-Out!! for the Wii, he’s getting back in shape with a bit of help from his bike riding den mother, Doc Louis:
For 15 years Little Mac has regretted losing the World Circuit Title to King Hippo, but now he’s throwing a welcome home party and he’s serving up some punch.
They say a comeback is like a yo-yo… you gonna go down, but you coming right back up… then you may end up walking the dog.
– Doc Louis
I’m really looking forward to the release of Punch-Out for the Nintendo Wii.
Until then, I’ll just have to play my classic Nintendo NES cartridge and get warmed up for the Wii version.
