SEGA Genesis NOMAD
July 1st, 2009 by Sean R.
Picked up this classic SEGA GENESIS NOMAD at a local Goodwill for $29.99 USD:
The thing is a huge brick, but it works nicely. The game cartridge I’m showing in the video is the GENESIS 6-PAK that contains the following classic games:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Golden Axe
- Streets of Rage
- Revenge of Shinobi
- Columns
- Super Hang-On
Apparently the SEGA Genesis NOMAD is really rare. I’ve seen them go for $25.00 USD to over $100.00 USD on eBay, so who really knows?
Anyway, it does have a TV out and a second controller (Player 2) port, but if you plan on connecting it to a TV, why not just use a normal SEGA Genesis?
Sega Genesis: Comix Zone
March 19th, 2009 by Sean R.
Comix Zone is an extremely original and visually impressive game which immerses you in a comic book world. It’s probably one of the coolest games I’ve ever seen on the Sega Genesis.

The idea behind it is that the comic’s author has magically switched places with the book’s villain. Your hero moves from frame to frame and page to page as a large hand draws new villains for you to fight.
The remarkable graphics are nearly comic book quality, with bubbles of dialog that appear every so often. Read the rest of this entry…

Valkyria Chronicles DLC Coming in ‘Spring’
March 16th, 2009 by Sean R.
Though Valkyria Chronicles didn’t have the massive success it so richly deserved, Sega hopes to rekindle the embers of interest in the game by releasing three downloadable additions to the game “this spring.”

CVG’s official word from Sega offers a rundown of the three add-ons:
Hard EX Mode — fight your way once more through the entire Imperial army, where the enemies are more lethal and your main tank Edelweiss is unavailable. You’ll have to be more strategic in order to overcome your opponents.
Edy’s Mission “Enter the Edy Detachment” — six members have been separated from Squad 7 and on their journey to reunite with the squad, they stumble upon a tiny village under attack by the Imperial Army. Play as Edy and command your outnumbered team to defend the small village from annihilation.
Selvaria’s Mission “Behind Her Blue Flame” — this mission takes place right after the outbreak of Gallian battle lines and you play as Johann, a young and meek engineer, assigned to Selvaria’s troop. See the action as it unfolds behind enemy lines and see the war play out through the eyes of the enemy.
So far Sega has yet to confirm a release date (beyond the nebulous “this spring”) or a price point for the DLC.

Sega’s HOTD: Overkill Sets Swearing Record
March 16th, 2009 by Sean R.
What best complements mowing down hordes of undead with high-caliber weaponry?

Apparently copious swears, if Sega’s House of the Dead: Overkill is any indication.
The recently released Nintendo Wii title now holds the record for “most swearing in a game” owing to its Tarantino-esque 189 instances of the word “fuck,” according to the Guinness World Records Gaming Edition.
“It is a dubious honour to receive such an accolade working in an industry where so often the fruits of your labours are derided and dismissed for being puerile or irresponsible, but in the case of The House of the Dead: Overkill a little puerility was the order of business,” said Overkill writer Jonathan Burroughs.
“Parodying the profane excess of grindhouse cinema was Headstrong Games’ objective and I am flattered that this record acknowledges that we not only rose to that challenge, but entirely exceeded it.”

Sega Genesis: Cool Spot
March 9th, 2009 by Sean R.
Cool Spot for the Sega Genesis stars the “red dot” with sunglasses who was formerly the 7-Up mascot.

Despite being essentially an interactive soft drink commercial, this game is irresistibly fun.
Each stage challenges you to collect suspended red dots while avoiding or shooting marine creatures and bugs.
Spot walks slowly but can leap a great distance, and I love his ability to shoot bubbles rapid-fire in all directions. Read the rest of this entry…
Xbox 360: Ultimate Genesis Collection
February 13th, 2009 by Sean R.
As expected, this morning I received my copy of “Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection” for my Xbox 360. Here are a few pictures:

As mentioned in my post the other day, I’ll be pretty busy doing some Recycled Gaming this weekend.
Even though it’s Valentine’s weekend, my wife loves the Sonic games, so this will be a win-win for both of us
Sega: Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection
February 11th, 2009 by Sean R.
As most of the Recycled Gaming readers know, about a week ago I acquired an Xbox 360 Elite Edition.
Well apparently on February 10, 2009 (in North America) the nice folks at Sega released “Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection” for the Xbox 360.
Have a look at this official Sega trailer for more details:
I’m all about playing classic and retro games, so this release of 40+ games is just freaking amazing! The classic 2D style never looked so good!
All the favorites are here including Sonic The Hedgehog, four titles from the Phantasy Star series, as well as three titles from the Streets of Rage series.
Also included in the collection as unlockables are arcade favorites such as Congo Bongo, Altered Beast and Zaxxon just to name a few.
Each of the game titles have been converted to Hi-Def (720p) and will be a blast to play on my Xbox 360 (it’s being released on PlayStation 3 too).
For those of you who are not in North America and want to get your hands on this Sega DVD full of win, here are the official release dates:
- US: Feb 10, 2009
- EU: Feb 20, 2009
- AU: Feb 26, 2009
As an added bonus, you can unlock additional arcade games and interviews with the original game developers as you earn Achievements on the Xbox 360 and Trophies on the PlayStation 3.
All I can say is for around $30.00 USD, this is probably one of the best retro gaming compilations currently available for the Xbox 360.
I’ll have my copy in hand on Friday February 13, 2009 (thanks Amazon). Needless to say, I’ll be busy doing some Recycled Gaming this weekend

Sega Dreamcast: Marvel Vs. Capcom
February 9th, 2009 by Sean R.
This 2D fighter for the Sega Dreamcast pits an odd assortment of Capcom favorites and Marvel superheroes.

On the Marvel side you have Spiderman, Captain America, Venom, War Machine, Hulk, Wolverine, and Gambit.
On the Capcom side, the motley crew includes Ryu, Zangief, Chun Li (Street Fighter 2), Captain Commando, Strider, Morrigan (Darkstalkers), and Mega Man.
Each player chooses two fighters in this tag team game, not including the additional “guest stars” you can call upon, and this game has every guest star except Charro! Read the rest of this entry…
