Polar White Nintendo DS Lite Unboxing
May 27th, 2009 by Sean
Below is a video of the new Polar White Nintendo DS Lite I received today. I didn’t do the typical unboxing video with me talking and having issues with the box, etc.
Instead I took pictures of the process, added in some cool visual effects and me playing acoustic guitar over the video. FYI the music was pre-recorded and not played while I was taking pictures
So the moral of the story? I’m starting to get into making my own videos to post on Modern Classic Gaming. Cool, eh?
Keep your eyes out for more videos coming soon. If you have video requests, please comment below and I’ll see what I can do… and now to go play with my brand spanking new Polar White Nintendo DS Lite…

Colors on the Nintendo DS and DS Lite
May 25th, 2009 by Sean
Christian Pearce, illustrator extraordinaire, sees no limits when it comes to his hot rod art, proving that even the touchscreen-enabled Nintendo DS and the homebrew app, Colors can be a deadly combo for imaginative creation:
Christian Pearce isn’t just some random illustrator with a knack for unusual media. The New Zealand-based man has amazing talent as proven by his employment at Peter Jackson’s Weta Workshop, creating the dinosaurs for the most recent King Kong movie.
Weta might sounds familiar to some of you as this is the same production studio that brought us the real-life Warthog, the gun-turret-wielding off-road beast from the popular XBOX franchise, Halo.
Colors! for Nintendo DS requires a homebrew enabled Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite. Download Colors.

Nintendo Wii: Punch-Out!!
May 10th, 2009 by Sean
Now, with a little over a week between us and Little Mac’s ringside return in Punch-Out!! for the Wii, he’s getting back in shape with a bit of help from his bike riding den mother, Doc Louis:
For 15 years Little Mac has regretted losing the World Circuit Title to King Hippo, but now he’s throwing a welcome home party and he’s serving up some punch.
They say a comeback is like a yo-yo… you gonna go down, but you coming right back up… then you may end up walking the dog.
– Doc Louis
I’m really looking forward to the release of Punch-Out for the Nintendo Wii.
Until then, I’ll just have to play my classic Nintendo NES cartridge and get warmed up for the Wii version.
Watch A Nintendo DSi Tear Itself Apart
April 16th, 2009 by Sean
Thanks to the wonders of stop-motion, watch in awe as this Nintendo DSi proceeds to tear itself to pieces:
Man, being able to see Nintendo’s new hand-held game machine inside and out in just over 2 minutes – priceless.

Turn 8-Bit NES music into Rock Band tracks
April 7th, 2009 by Sean
Insignificant Studios’ 8bitar Hero procedurally generates four Rock Band patterns from the audio of someone playing an emulated NES game, all in real-time.
8BITar Hero is basically Rock Band except with a Nintendo emulator generating the music and levels. Taken from the 8BITar Hero website:
Gameplay levels that are procedurally generated from the act of playing a game. One person plays NES games on an emulator, others play a Rock-Band game with levels that are generated algorithmically from the audio code of the NES game. The focus here is the generative nature of the game, and the process by which the levels are created.
So this is basically filed under “something I had no idea I wanted to do, until I realized I had the opportunity to do it”.
Mario vs Spartan 2
March 6th, 2009 by Sean
Doing some YouTube surfing today, I came across a pretty cool video of the epic battle of 2D vs 3D in Mario vs Spartan 2.
Yes I know this video is 9+ minutes long, but it’s totally worth a few, if only to see a couple of Mushroom People get whacked around 5:15 into the video.
Timeline and History of Video Games
February 28th, 2009 by Sean
Doing some poking around Google Video this morning, I came across this video showing various video game consoles from 1952 to present day (2008):
It’s a pretty amazing video. I actually learned a few things that I didn’t know about some older consoles and coin-op machines.
This video is based on the history of video games.
Cool Hacked Super Mario Levels
February 21st, 2009 by Sean
Doing some random Nintendo Super Mario Level video searching on YouTube earlier today, I came across this video:
I’ve done my share of hacking game ROMs but nothing like this. It probably took these gaming hackers hundreds of hours to create this masterpiece.
Now if I could only find a download for it
