Wireless Wooden Stratocaster Replica

August 28th, 2009 by Sean

The latest Xbox 360 guitar controller from Mad Catz, first announced during E3, is like normal Rock Band instruments, except made of wood. In other words, it’s like a real Fender guitar, except without strings:

Rock Band Fender

I actually have a real Fender Strat Sunburst guitar made in Fullerton, CA (USA Model). I’d love to get one of these so I better start saving up for it.

Check out the video below of it in action:

At $300.00 USD, it’s a little pricey, but considering it’s made of real wood, has a real Fender paint job and basically a real guitar less strings, it’s worth it.

Guitar Hero Metallica Cyanide – Xbox 360

July 8th, 2009 by Sean

My buddy Brandon came over last Friday (July 3) and we played some Guitar Hero Metallica on my Xbox 360 and it was decided to record a video of the gameplay.

I apologize in advance for the auto focusing going on in the video. I’ll turn that off for the next gaming video.

Moving along, here is the Metallica Guitar Hero song Cyanide on Hard:

Almost had 100% but ended up with 99%. Missed a note right around 3:22 in the video. Eh, will get it next time.

Some other Guitar Hero stats to mention were a 461 note streak, 5 star rating and a final score of 389,747. Not too bad.

I plan on recording some other gaming videos, so if you have requests, leave them in the comments. Enjoy the video.

E3 2009 Xbox LIVE Backstage Pass

June 3rd, 2009 by Sean

If you’re an Xbox 360 owner, be sure to check out the recently added Marvel VS Capcom 2 New Age of Heroes Trailer just added for free download.

I love playing Marvel VS Capcom 2 on my Sega Dreamcast, however I’m REALLY looking forward to playing this game on my Xbox 360. The trailer looks amazing and with the addition of online multi-player, all I can say is bring it on!

Also if you have 400 Microsoft points and 197 MB of free space on your hard drive, you can now purchase and download the full game Wolfenstein 3D for your Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Arcade:

Achtung! You are OSA super agent B.J. Blazkowicz and you must escape from Castle Wolfenstein and defeat the twisted Nazi regime! Fight all of the memorable enemies from Hans Grosse to Mecha-Hitler in the legendary game that launched the First Person Shooter genre. Search classic levels for hidden secrets that reveal stolen Nazi treasure, health packs, ammo and weapons, or even short cuts.

Wolfenstein 3D is awesome! I still own the PC version (and it works), I have the Super Nintendo version (which is totally watered down), plus I have it for my GameBoy Advance which is a full port, Nazi’s and all.

Until recently I would either play it on my Nintendo GameBoy Advance or via my GameCube using my GameBoy Player on my 32 inch TV, but now I can play it on my Xbox 360… Muhahahahaha!

Also, as reported yesterday, the original Perfect Dark for Nintendo 64 (N64) will be released soon for Xbox Live:

Agent Joanna Dark hit the ground running in Perfect Dark, an epic tale of galactic conspiracies in 2023 America. Now this classic shooter is coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, rendered in greater definition and detail and sporting a silkier framerate than ever before. Fire up your Farsight and prepare for assignment– the Dark returns this winter.

Here’s one more cool E3 announcement:

Microsoft was kind enough to release a free Perfect Dark Xbox theme for Xbox LIVE Gold Members. Be sure to download it now.

Perfect Dark Coming To XBLA This Winter

June 2nd, 2009 by Sean

Larry Hryb Director of Programming for the Microsoft gaming network (Xbox Live Arcade) just posted a little note on his Twitter account:

In the booth. Just saw Perfect Dark on XBLA running 1080p. It is coming to XBLA this winter. Free theme coming tomorrow!

So yeah, the original Perfect Dark originally released on the N64 will be out on Xbox Live Arcade later this year.

Nintendo 64 Perfect Dark

According to Hryb, it’s running in 1080p, and will be out this “Winter”.

The news isn’t surprising, since it’s been heavily rumored for a while now, but still. It’s pleasant.

Battlefield 1943 Drops In June

April 23rd, 2009 by Sean

DICE advances World War II by a year in June, announcing the release date and pricing details for their downloadable online multiplayer shooter Battlefield 1943.

Battlefield 1943

A small slice of World War II is coming to the PlayStation network and Xbox Live Arcade on June 15th in DICE’s Frostbyte-driven update to Battlefield 1942.

It’s the US Marines against the Imperial Japanese Navy as gamers participate in 24-player battles across Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.

Coming in at a mere $15.00 USD, or 1200 Microsoft points, this sounds like a bargain to me.

Be on the lookout for the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network versions in June, with the PC version coming in September for some odd reason.

Xbox: Star Wars Republic Commando

April 12th, 2009 by Luke C.

While movie-licensed video games tend to have a reputation for being bad games, Star Wars games have a better-than-average reputation, and Republic Commando is one of the reasons why.

Star Wars Republic Commando

If you want to play a game that takes you through the movies, allowing you to reenact the amazing battles and wield the awesome powers of the Jedi, this isn’t your kind of game. Republic Commando follows the exploits of Delta Squad, four clone commandos during the Clone Wars. Throughout the campaign it’s just you, your modular blaster rifle, and your squadmates against armies.

There’s not a huge amount of variety to your weapons in this game. You have a blaster rifle that has an autofire mode, a sniper mode, and an anti-armor mode, and then one fourth slot. By default this slot holds your pistol, which is weak and slow to recharge but has unlimited ammo. Read the rest of this entry…

Nielsen’s Revised Video Game Market Chart

April 9th, 2009 by Sean

Remember that study of video gamer habits Nielsen released earlier this week showing the Wii in third place and the Playstation 3 in seventh, last even after the GameCube and original Xbox? It was wrong.

Nielsen Accurate

Fast Company reports that they’ve been told that the graph was mislabeled. The real graph, which now appears in the official report and in the image above, shows that the Wii is in second place, after the PS2, for console usage and the PS3 is in fifth place, beating out the GameCube and original Xbox.

Whoops. I hope there aren’t any other mistakes in the oft-cited, typically trusted data. Reached for comment this morning, a Nielsen representative said the report does not contain any other errors.

Report: Average Game Console Usage

April 8th, 2009 by Sean

The Nielsen group has released a new report on usage of the three major consoles.

Nielsen Consoles

Coming as little surprise, Nielsen’s study has placed Wii in dead last, with the average player using the console 6.8 percent of the time during Nielsen’s study in December, 2008.

During that same period, those involved in the study played Xbox 360 10.2 percent and PS3 10.6 percent — nearly double the Wii average. Clearly, the average gamer doesn’t have the endurance necessary for long-term waggling.

Nintendo Wii also ranked the lowest in average days used over the course of the study, with users only partaking an average of 5 days.

The Sony PS3 ranked second place, with users spending an average of 6.8 days days, which leaves us with Xbox 360, the top dog in this category with an average of 7.1 days.

Lastly, Nielsen tracked the daily average number of sessions, and, again, Wii was last with 1.78 sessions, whereas the Xbox 360 and PS3 had much higher averages of 2.15 and 2.74 sessions, respectively.

So, the question is, how would you rank your gaming console usage?
