Game Boy Advance: Drill Dozer

Drill Dozer for the Game Boy Advance is one of those quirky games that I’m always slightly surprised came out in the US.

The star of the game is a pink-haired thief. No sneak-thief she, this girl rides a robot equipped with large drills for arms.
The gameplay is very simple. Your actions are basically limited to walking, jumping, drilling, and occasionally curling up into a little robot ball and dashing a short distance.
While the game controls may be simplistic, the actual gameplay makes good use of the idea of the drill. As you might expect, much of the gameplay involves drilling your way through the levels.
Soon enough you’ll be introduced to other wrinkles, including using your drill to turn screws or power motors, using your drill as a propeller, and even jumping by reversing the spin of your drill.

The graphics are clear and colorful. The general color scheme is full of pastels and primary colors; if you’re looking for a gritty space war here, you’re way off from target.
Drill Dozer is divided into stages, with two in each area. After being cleared, each stage can be selected individually from a main map screen so they can be explored again with new equipment, which gives Drill Dozer a slight resemblance to Mega Man or Metroid.
Surprisingly few copies of this game were bought by the consumer when it first came out, so keep an eye out for stores that still have a copy sitting on the shelf. I got my own copy for $10.00 USD new at Target a few months ago, and I haven’t regretted it one bit.
This game sounds pretty fun and for $10, that’s a steal. I’ve actually seen GBA games at my local Wal Greens recently, but nothing I wanted.
It can be hard to trust the cheap games you find at non-game stores, but sometimes you find a real gem. Keep an eye out!
@Luke: As you know I too found Drill Dozer at Target new for $9.99 USD in the discount bin area back in the electronics department. This game is a lot of fun. Thanks for the suggestion.
