Microsoft Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation 3?

Hey Modern Classic Gaming readers, I’m needing some help and advice on choosing either an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 game system. Read on.

Don’t worry, I’m not giving up on all my classic games or systems, but recently this was brought to my attention…

I have the opportunity to get my hands on a brand new black limited edition Xbox 360 (with HDMI and 120 GB hard drive) or a brand new Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) gaming console.

So here’s my dilemma: which one to choose? Xbox 360 or PS3?

Before you ask, the cost of the console is not a factor since I’ll be getting either system at no cost to me but I only get to pick one.

Let me know what system you would choose and/ or if you already personally own one and tell me why you like it or dislike the system.

Keep in mind that I don’t own any Blu-Ray movies, and don’t plan on buying any at this point, so Blu-Ray doesn’t matter to me.

I currently own over 400+ DVD’s, so right off the bat that makes me lean towards the Xbox 360 since I don’t want to repurchase all my movies. That would cost me a ton of cash.

I also don’t have any games for either system, however I do own a ton of PS1 and PS2 games (I play on my PS2), but not all PS3′s are backwards compatible.

So there you go, my modern day gaming dilemma in a nutshell.

Any comments, suggestions or advice would be great. Let the comments flow…

I personally have a PS3 and I’ll be flat out honest that I’m recommending it and I’m horribly biased.

My reasoning though, is that you leave yourself future proof on your movie front.
You have 400+ DVDs which will all work, and look awesome when unconverted by the PS3, but if you do ever want to move to Blu-ray you’re already set to go.

As far as I understand you should be fine on playing PS1 games, but to get PS2 you have to buy one of the specific out of production PS3 models, either a 2006 or 2007 PS3 with the 20, 60 or 80GB harddrive. (all this is on the PS3 wiki entry)

Also with PS3 you get built in wireless internet (added cost on xbox), a webbrowser (not available on xbox), and wireless controllers come standard and are rechargeable.

But if you are only able to get a new PS3 you will survive, just means your PS2 gets to stay around longer.

My suggestion to you man is that you get the 360, I own one and it works. I’m not sure about the PS3 but hey in my opinion the 360 is a lot better.

    360. Like I’ve been telling you, the Xbox Live Arcade has a bunch of retro games in it. There’s a remake of Bionic Commando, graphical updates of Battlezone and Warlords, and Smash TV with online multiplayer, among many, many others. I know at least one person who has an Xbox 360 just for Arcade games; heck, if I had the money to spare, I’d probably have already spent at least a cool $150 on games like that (and at generally $5-15, that’s not a small number of games).

Sean I would go with the 360 It seems like a better fit considering the other gaming consoles you already own not to mention that blu-ray drive fails on the PS3 pretty quick.

  5. Billy The Kid says:

Since you are really into the retro games, I’m with Luke, go with the 360 since it has an awesome collection of classic games for the Xbox Live Arcade.

  6. Sean R. says:

So I made my decision on which gaming console to pick up.
