Fantastic tracks and plenty of surprises push this excellent Nintendo 64 racer by Electronic Arts to the top of the heap!

Beetle Adventure Racing’s six tracks are not only loaded with power-ups and shortcuts, but the inventive track designs offer beautiful scenery and ample opportunities to catch “big air”.

Certain sequences will catch you off-guard, like when a T-Rex leans over a wall and tries to eat your car in the Jurassic Park-inspired track!

The cars are limited to Volkswagen VW Beetles (duh) and the music is less than spectacular, but the races are thrilling.

There’s also a four-player “capture the flag” game variation is included, but I would have preferred a four-player racing mode.

Even so, arcade-minded gamers can’t go wrong with Beetle Adventure Racing.

If you don’t own the game, doing a quick check, the eBay 90-day average price is less then $4.00 USD, so it’s a real bargain if you want to pick it up.

If I run across it, I will take your word and try it. I’m not that much into racing games, but will try any well made game and if this racing game is nice and fun, why not??

  2. Sean R. says:

@BitMaster: Since the game is really cheap to find now, I say definitely give it a try and yes, it’s a lot of fun.

You mention not liking racing games. Do you like the Mario Kart series? or Grand Theft Auto? I use to really enjoy Twisted Metal on the original PlayStation. Now that was some fun racing (and crashing) action.

I’ve seen this game at garage sales and passed it up thinking it would be lame, but now after reading your post, I’m going to try and find it again.

I like that you mentioned Twisted Metal Sean. That and Vigilante 8 are outrageously fun, and some of the best games for the PS1.
