Nintendo 64: Blast Corps

When it comes to guys, there’s only one thing we like better than building stuff, and that’s blowing stuff up!

Thank goodness Blast Corps for the N64 gives us guys an outlet for our primal urge to unleash destruction and mayhem.
Each stage begins with a large truck carrying explosive materials slowly crawling up the screen. If it touches anything, it’s game over, so you must obliterate all obstacles standing in its way.
There are a variety of vehicles at your disposal, including a bull-dozer, dump truck, train, and an Ultra-man style robot.
The buildings tend to crumble easily like they do in old Godzilla movies, which is satisfying.
Alarming sound effects add a degree of tension as they increase in intensity as the truck approaches an obstacle.
Blast Corps’ control is generally good, although it can be clumsy when it comes to intricate operations like pushing TNT crates.
What really makes Blast Corps a riot is its incredible explosions. Sweet!
Although most levels are well designed, you’ll occasionally find yourself asking “What am I supposed to do now?”.
All in all, Blast Corps by Rare is a highly original game that will satisfy real men with an appetite for destruction.
Blast Corps was a ton of fun. It had its awkward points (having to skid in the dumptruck so you could hit buildings with its rear end comes to mind), but the originality really made up for it.
Agreed, I do like blowing things up, however I’ve never played Blast Corps before. It sure sounds like a fun game. I’ll have to give it a try.
I just saw this game yesterday at my local Play N Trade game store. Now that I’ve read your post, I’m going back to PNT to buy it. Hopefully it’s still there.
@Rob: Play N Trade can be hit or miss it seems with classic games but if you ever see something you might want, pick it up before someone else does and if you end up not liking the game, you can always return it and/ or trade it in for something else.
My pal just showed me this one a few months back. it is worth owning and can be had 4 peanuts. great mechanics and challenges. This is a true Easter egg amongst gaming aficionados…its what i call ” a little enjoyable snack”
