Nintendo: New Super Mario Bros Wii

June 3, 2009 - 4:25 pm - Posted by Sean R.

Below is a video from E3 2009 showing the world premiere announcement and demonstration of the new Nintendo Wii game, “New Super Mario Bros Wii”:

The actual gameplay demonstration starts around 2:20 in the video.

What I’m really excited about in this game is the ability for up to 4 players to cooperatively play together in a classic Super Mario Bros setting.

We can expect the “New Super Mario Bros Wii” game to be launched in Christmas 2009. I’ll be pre-ordering for sure.

E3 2009 Xbox LIVE Backstage Pass

If you’re an Xbox 360 owner, be sure to check out the recently added Marvel VS Capcom 2 New Age of Heroes Trailer just added for free download.

I love playing Marvel VS Capcom 2 on my Sega Dreamcast, however I’m REALLY looking forward to playing this game on my Xbox 360. The trailer looks amazing and with the addition of online multi-player, all I can say is bring it on!

Also if you have 400 Microsoft points and 197 MB of free space on your hard drive, you can now purchase and download the full game Wolfenstein 3D for your Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Arcade:

Achtung! You are OSA super agent B.J. Blazkowicz and you must escape from Castle Wolfenstein and defeat the twisted Nazi regime! Fight all of the memorable enemies from Hans Grosse to Mecha-Hitler in the legendary game that launched the First Person Shooter genre. Search classic levels for hidden secrets that reveal stolen Nazi treasure, health packs, ammo and weapons, or even short cuts.

Wolfenstein 3D is awesome! I still own the PC version (and it works), I have the Super Nintendo version (which is totally watered down), plus I have it for my GameBoy Advance which is a full port, Nazi’s and all.

Until recently I would either play it on my Nintendo GameBoy Advance or via my GameCube using my GameBoy Player on my 32 inch TV, but now I can play it on my Xbox 360… Muhahahahaha!

Also, as reported yesterday, the original Perfect Dark for Nintendo 64 (N64) will be released soon for Xbox Live:

Agent Joanna Dark hit the ground running in Perfect Dark, an epic tale of galactic conspiracies in 2023 America. Now this classic shooter is coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, rendered in greater definition and detail and sporting a silkier framerate than ever before. Fire up your Farsight and prepare for assignment– the Dark returns this winter.

Here’s one more cool E3 announcement:

Microsoft was kind enough to release a free Perfect Dark Xbox theme for Xbox LIVE Gold Members. Be sure to download it now.

Perfect Dark Coming To XBLA This Winter

June 2, 2009 - 2:33 pm - Posted by Sean R.

Larry Hryb Director of Programming for the Microsoft gaming network (Xbox Live Arcade) just posted a little note on his Twitter account:

In the booth. Just saw Perfect Dark on XBLA running 1080p. It is coming to XBLA this winter. Free theme coming tomorrow!

So yeah, the original Perfect Dark originally released on the N64 will be out on Xbox Live Arcade later this year.

According to Hryb, it’s running in 1080p, and will be out this “Winter”.

The news isn’t surprising, since it’s been heavily rumored for a while now, but still. It’s pleasant.

PS2: Dirge of Cerberus – Final Fantasy VII

May 31, 2009 - 10:18 pm - Posted by Luke C.

Dirge of Cerberus - Final Fantasy VIISometimes a successful series has a spin-off that, while strange, turns out to be fun and successful in its own right, like Phantasy Star Online or Secret of Mana. On the other hand, sometimes you end up with Dirge of Cerberus.

First, since Cerberus is a spin-off of possibly the most controversial game in the Final Fantasy series and the pleasure you can get from it probably depends at least partly on what you think of the parent game, I should come clean: I don’t like FF7. I think that at its core it’s a mediocre RPG with a few interesting ideas, but also that it sparked off negative trends in the genre. I also watched but didn’t really like or dislike the movie sequel, Advent Children. (I did like Tifa’s redesign, though.)

Now we’re up to Dirge of Cerberus. It’s an action game (specifically a third-person shooter) starring Vincent Valentine, who as I understand it is the good optional character in FF7. While aiding the cleanup efforts after the disasters that strike during FF7 and AC, Vincent is apparently targeted by Deep Ground, special forces from Shinra that have not been able to surface (literally) since the Meteor event of FF7. Atari 2600: Pressure Cooker

May 31, 2009 - 9:47 am - Posted by Sean R.

If this Atari 2600 game is any indication, working in a fast food restaurant is an absolute blast!

Pressure Cooker

Pressure Cooker lets you play the role of a short-order cook, a concept we didn’t see again until Cooking Momma took the Nintendo Wii by storm in 2007.

Pressure Cooker lets you assemble burgers by piling tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, and onions onto beef paddies moving down a conveyor belt.

The bottom of the screen shows a “checklist” of ingredients required to create the next three orders. Read the rest of this entry…

Polar White Nintendo DS Lite Unboxing

May 27, 2009 - 9:54 pm - Posted by Sean R.

Below is a video of the new Polar White Nintendo DS Lite I received today. I didn’t do the typical unboxing video with me talking and having issues with the box, etc.

Instead I took pictures of the process, added in some cool visual effects and me playing acoustic guitar over the video. FYI the music was pre-recorded and not played while I was taking pictures :)

So the moral of the story? I’m starting to get into making my own videos to post on Modern Classic Gaming. Cool, eh?

Keep your eyes out for more videos coming soon. If you have video requests, please comment below and I’ll see what I can do… and now to go play with my brand spanking new Polar White Nintendo DS Lite…

Colors on the Nintendo DS and DS Lite

May 25, 2009 - 7:31 am - Posted by Sean R.

Christian Pearce, illustrator extraordinaire, sees no limits when it comes to his hot rod art, proving that even the touchscreen-enabled Nintendo DS and the homebrew app, Colors can be a deadly combo for imaginative creation:

Christian Pearce isn’t just some random illustrator with a knack for unusual media. The New Zealand-based man has amazing talent as proven by his employment at Peter Jackson’s Weta Workshop, creating the dinosaurs for the most recent King Kong movie.

Weta might sounds familiar to some of you as this is the same production studio that brought us the real-life Warthog, the gun-turret-wielding off-road beast from the popular XBOX franchise, Halo.

Colors! for Nintendo DS requires a homebrew enabled Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite. Download Colors.

Nintendo Mario Kart Wii Used In Driver’s Ed

May 19, 2009 - 4:14 am - Posted by Sean R.

Students at Vail Christian High School in Colorado are learning the importance of not driving while distracted. They’re doing this with the help of Mario Kart Wii.

The high school created the “distracted and drowsy driving project” with the help of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Department, the Colorado State Patrol, the Eagle Country Fire Fighters and the Vail Valley Medical Center.

The kids “drive” Mario Kart Wii while trying to contend with text messages, turtle shells and powerslides.
